"Kingsman: The Golden Circle" is a spy-spoof based on the 2012 comic book "The Secret Service" by Mark Millar and Dave Gibbons. An all-star cast completes this sequel to the 2015 original hit movie.Returning for episode 2 is Taron Egerton(very good), Colin Firth, and director Matthew Vaughn. "Kingsman: The Golden Circle" features great location shot, Bondlike gadgets, wild action, and crude humor. Gentleman Eggsy(Taron Egerton) appears outside of his tailor shop spy-HQ in London, when he is suddenly attacked by an old Kingsman training reject, and his new cyborg arm. A terrific deadly fight continues in a taxi racing through the night streets of London.Later that night, a bomb destroys the Kingsman's tailor shop headquarters and almost all the agents are killed. The bombing is traced to an international drug cartel called the Golden Circle, run by the smarmy nut-job known as Poppy(Julianne Moore), who lives in a remote jungle surrounded by 1950's retro decor; guarded by a small army of soldiers and robots. A scandal for the American president blurs the story in the second half, as political demagoguery takes over. "Kingsman" also stars Mark Strong, Halle Berry, Elton John, and Jeff Bridges as Champ.
Julainne Moore easily steals the entire movie as Poppy, the devilish, funny head of the the Golden Circle drug cartel. A few key scenes include Elton John in pink feathers playing his trademark grand piano, and a flashy sequence of an out-of-control cable car crashing down the snow-covered Italian Alps. Matthew Vaughn, who has already helmed 6 movies, has been announced as director of "Kingsman 3". At 141 minutes, "Kingsman: The Golden Circle" is too long. But it's funny, and as chic and sharp as Taron Egerton's new suits.
