"The Jungle Book" is excellent. This is how the story goes: The man-cub Mowgli flees the jungle after a threat from the tiger Shere Khan. Guided by Bagheera the panther and the bear Baloo, Mowgli embarks on a journey of self-discovery, though he also meets creatures who don't have his best interests at heart.
The cast led by Neel Sethi (in a solid film-making debut performance as Mowgli) and also the voices of Bill Murray (in a superb performance as Baloo), Ben Kinglsey (also superb as Bagheera), Idris Elba (devilishly superb as Shere Khan), Lupita Nyong'o (solid as usual as Raksha), Scarlett Johansson (also solid as Kaa), Giancarlo Esposito (also solid as Akela) & Christopher Walken (sly and superb as King Louie) is excellent. The directing by Jon Favreau (who also produced the film and also does the voice of Pygmy Hog) is excellent. The screenplay (based on the novel by Rudyard Kipling) by Justin Marks is excellent.
The music by John Debney is excellent. The cinematography by Bill Pope is excellent. The film editing by Mark Livolsi is excellent. The casting by Sarah Halley Finn is excellent. The production design by Christopher Glass & Abhijeet Mazumder is excellent. The art direction by Ravi Bansal, John Lord Booth III, Andrew L. Jones & Mike Stassi is excellent. The set decoration by Amanda Moss Serino, set dressings by David L. Bush, Nancy Ann Lai, Glenn Strauss, Adam Zerkel & Merdyce McClaran, set designs by Aric Cheng, David Chow, Richard F. Mays & Julien Pougnier is excellent. The costume design by Laura Jean Shannon is excellent. The stunts coordinated by Issac Hamon, Thomas Robinson Harper & Casey O'Neill is excellent. The special effects supervised by J.D. Schwalm is excellent. The visual effects supervised by Charley Henley, Robert Legato, Dan Lemmon, Keith Miller, Adam Valdez & Oliver Winwood and coordinated by Shelley Andagan, Pat Antonelli, Lara Berners, Zaira Brilhante, Sophie Cherry, Rachel de Jong, Jake Delaney, Olivia Evelyn, Chloe Feodoroff, Erika Gourvitz, Tiffany Griffin, Zafar Janjua, George Kolyras, Erin Langford, Alisha Lim, Lee Maher, Helen McAvoy, John Meyers, Rosanna Morley, Will Newis, Drew Nielsen, Paul O'Hara, Emily Pead, Ingrid Pons, Bryan Ryan, Angelika Schierz, Clayton Shank, Brett Skaggs, Lila Sara Tahri, Nick Thompson, Amy Tong, P.J. Tobyansen, Alysia Wildman, Nancy Xu, Anna Joel Wilson, Paul Marcus Wong, Teréz Koncz & Jérémie Maitrejean is excellent.
This is an excellent, well-crafted, well-made and entertaining movie / remake that is well-done and intriguingly interesting. Jon Favreau has directed another excellent movie on his resume. Neel Sethi gives a breakout performance as Mowgli and Bill Murray, Ben Kingsley, Idris Elba & Christopher Walken are superb in their vocal performances as Baloo, Bagheera, Shere Khan & King Louie. This is one of the best family films of the year, so far, and is also one of the best family films of the season, as well, too.
